On February 1st, the Tongzhou District of Beijing, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Cooperative Development Campaign, held a press conference dedicated to the high-quality development of the industry. The event also marked the planning of the second and third phases of Universal Studios in Tongzhou. In recent years, Tongzhou has persistently advanced its cultural and tourism events. The Phase I opening of the Universal Theme Park, the completion and operation of the three major cultural buildings in the sub-center, the initiation of the public notice period for the 5A creation of the Grand Canal Cultural and Tourism Scenic Area, and the acceleration of high-quality culture and tourism development in the city's sub-center have all contributed to Tongzhou's rapid growth in this sector.
According to Gai Chang, the deputy director of the Tongzhou Culture and Tourism Bureau, the district is currently accelerating the planning and construction of Universal Studios Phase II and III. Upon the completion of the third phase, the annual foot traffic is projected to reach 30 million visitors. By leveraging the spillover effect of the Universal Theme Park, Tongzhou aims to establish a new type of consumption circle in the city’s sub-center, while also emphasizing the support of secondary consumption and the extension of the industrial chain. It is understood that, as revealed in the early information, Universal Beijing Resort has a total area of over 4,000,000 sq.m. Phase I approximately occupies a land area of 1,595,700 sq.m; Phase II spans 1,658,300 sq.m. The development plans include a theme park featuring Chinese elements and introducing Chinese culture and IPs such as Monkey King. Phase III is scheduled to be developed as a water park.
